Recently, media outlets claimed hazardous conditions are ravaging the big island. Don’t believe the hype. While Kilauea remains active – and some areas have been evacuated as a precaution – the island is not completely shut down, contrary to popular belief. It’s still entirely safe to visit Hawaii.

Hula Arts at Kilauea: Na Mea Hula Demonstrations
June 16 | 11am – 1pm
Held in conjunction with monthly Na Mea hula kahiko performances, join Kumu hula Kahookele Crabbe with Halauolaokalani at VAC Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village for “Na Mea Hula” (all things hula). Come and learn a hula, use various hula implements and try your hand at lei making. You’ll learn all about the different aspects that play an integral role in the life of the hula dancer. These cultural demonstrations are hands-on and family-friendly. This is a free event.
Under the Stars: American Pops!
June 27 | 6pm – 7:30pm
Join Hawaii Performing Arts Festival Executive Director Justin John Moniz and Grammy award winner Danny Belcher for a spectacular evening of American classics, accompanied by festival favorite Phil Kadet on the piano. Set in the beautiful outdoor amphitheater at The Shops at Mauna Lani. Food and drink available for purchase. Free to the public. Sponsored by the Shops at Mauna Lani. Watercolor Monoprint with Molly Aubrey
June 30 | 10am – 4pm
With an emphasis on creativity, experimentation, and discovery, this workshop will focus on a liberating and painterly form of non-toxic printmaking: watercolor monotypes. Students will learn many techniques, including preparing a matrix, applying watercolors to create various effects, and printing by hand with a printing press. Students may work abstractly or representationally and will receive technical and conceptual guidance based on their personal goals and interests. Open to all levels.
