Volcano National Park hotel rooms and suites.
Volcanoes National Park is truly a wonder. Here you’ll witness – firsthand – the vastness of Hawaii’s open landscape and the power of mother nature. There are many things to see in Volcanoes National Park. You can enjoy a self-guided driving tour, go on a day-hike, or take a back-country hike through the remote wildness. You can also volunteer or enjoy one of the park’s educational programs.
Volcanos National Park Stewardship Summit
Join other volunteers in keeping the parklands healthy by cutting invasive Himalayan ginger from hiking trails. Each hike is one-mile round trip and involves walking over rough and uneven terrain. There’s also an elevation gain of about 400 feet. It’s a great way to see the park, get some exercise, and help out all at the same time. Loppers and gloves are provided and all are encouraged to wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes.
Volcanoes National Park Special Programs
Volcanoes National Park offers a number of special programs dedicated to the scientific, historic, and cultural significance of the park.
After Dark in The Park. Enjoy special presentations by leading scientists, artists, and cultural experts on park-related topics. Located in Kilauea Visitor Center auditorium select Tuesdays at 7:00 pm.
ʻIke Hana Noʻeau. Learn from Hawaiian practitioners as the share demonstrations and hands-on activities related to the arts and culture of Hawaii.
A Walk into the Past: A Living History. In this period reenactment, a history presented brings back to life founder of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, Thomas A. Jagger. The program itself takes place in a small underground laboratory that still has original seismograph equipment.
Nā Leo Manu. Enjoy the beautiful sounds of Hawaiian music in the Kilauea Visitor Center. Co-sponsored by the Hawaii Pacific Parks Association.
The Kahuku Unit. Another option is to visit the Kahuku Unit, located on the shoulders of the Mauna Loa. This spot was once home to the largest cattle ranch on Hawaii and was in operation for over 150 years. It’s a sprawling 116,000 acres that has been shaped by both man and nature.
